The mission of the Parker County Committee on Aging is to identify and assess the needs of the frail, homebound elderly of Parker County and to provide the services they need to live out their lives with dignity in the safety and comfort of their homes. The organization's active Senior Center serves persons aged 60 and over with nutritional, educational, recreational and social programs.

Established in 1975 in a small building near downtown Weatherford, the Senior Center serves a fast-growing county of 120,000 people, 11% of whom are 65 or older.  The organization is not a federal or state agency.  It receives less than 28% of its annual revenue from government or public sources.  The vast majority of its programs are funded through the very generous support of Parker County’s residents, businesses, corporations, and foundations.  The organization has 13 employees and utilizes 125 volunteers per week for the Meals-on- Wheels program alone.  In other programs, another 25 volunteers per week assist the organization.

Active senior citizens, many on limited or fixed incomes, use the current Center’s programs to promote good physical health, social interaction and recreation, and lifelong learning.  The Senior Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit,  manages a large Meals-on-Wheels program, contacts the homebound daily through volunteers, and assists the elderly seeking Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid information.

The only one of its kind in the area, the Center has built strong partnerships with families, businesses, regional healthcare organizations, and others in and outside Parker County.  It annually serves or assists 1,000 older friends and families onsite, provides 4,700 hours of case management help for physical health purposes, initiates 18,000 phone calls to homebound, prepares 15,500 onsite meals to those who can pay and those who cannot, delivers 54,500 Meals on Wheels, and provides 4,800 trips to doctors, pharmacies, grocery stores and other locations, particularly for those who cannot care for themselves.
